The World Bank Group’s Young Professionals Program offers exceptional professionals the opportunity to apply technical expertise and contribute to development challenges. The role involves data science, quantitative research, and supporting outcome measurement and delivery across the World Bank Group.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development, testing, and refinement of outcome indicators and methodologies at project and portfolio level, including data collection, cleaning, exploratory analysis, and quality assurance of WBG Scorecard indicators, and manual reviews of results frameworks in project documents (PADs, ISRs, ICRs) when required.
  • Support the development and monitoring of outcome targets to inform evidence-based decisions on strategies and portfolios, including reviews of strategy and project documents, curation of outcome data, application of forecasting techniques to estimate future portfolio-level results, and synthesis of key findings.
  • Contribute to the AI for Outcomes program by designing, building, and maintaining analytical tools and data products—including applications that use large language models (LLMs), natural language processing, and other machine learning techniques—to strengthen outcomes measurement, generate operational insight, and support evidence-based decision making.
  • Contribute to methodological notes, indicator guidance, and quality assurance of results data, drawing on research and evaluation methods used across MDBs to strengthen the credibility and comparability of reported outcomes.
  • Analyze outcome metrics from WBG operations, aggregate results, and monitor where and how the institution is delivering development outcomes, extracting insights that inform strategic decision platforms supporting WBG senior leadership.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear, visually compelling, and well-designed presentations, briefs, dashboards, talking points, and briefing notes for senior management and other technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to the rollout of outcome-related action plans and to cross-cutting thematic work (such as jobs, climate, private capital mobilization, women, and youth) in coordination with Regional teams, the vertical Vice Presidencies, IFC, and MIGA.
  • Support project management across analytical workstreams, including scoping assignments, coordinating inputs from multiple teams, tracking timelines, and helping ensure the timely delivery of high-quality outputs.
  • Support the Department’s convening, learning, and capacity-building role with internal and external stakeholders, including other multilateral development banks and external advisory bodies such as the Jobs Council.
  • Contribute to additional work program priorities of the Department for Outcomes as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in economics, statistics, applied mathematics, data science, computer science, information systems, public policy, public administration, international development, business management, or a closely related field, ideally with a focus on data science and analytics; a PhD is an advantage.
  • 2–6 years of relevant professional experience in data science or analytics, results measurement and monitoring and evaluation, portfolio management, management consulting, development finance, public policy, or related areas.
  • Experience in management consulting or portfolio management with exposure to senior executive audiences is an advantage.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with high proficiency in Python and SQL (and/or R, Stata), and familiarity with statistical and machine learning methods, including natural language processing and LLMs.
  • Working knowledge of software engineering best practices (version control, modular design, testing, and reproducible workflows) and experience working with large datasets, modern data ecosystems, and cloud-based environments, including data ingestion and transformation, relational databases, data APIs, data quality validation, and processing of structured and unstructured data.
  • Experience building or contributing to end-to-end analytical pipelines, AI-enabled applications, or interactive dashboards is an advantage.
  • Strong data visualization and presentation skills, including high proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, and the ability to structure complex information into accessible, well-designed visuals and consulting-style narratives suitable for high-level audiences.
  • Solid understanding of research and evaluation methods, including approaches used in MDBs, and methodological grounding in indicator development, measurement, evidence sources and data collection, and results reporting (including dashboards).
  • Understanding of development operations and results frameworks; familiarity with the WBG or other MDB project cycle, results measurement systems, or the WBG Scorecard is an advantage.
  • Project management and organizational skills, including the ability to scope assignments, manage multiple workstreams, coordinate across teams and stakeholders, and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
  • Outside-in, client-oriented approach with the ability to understand and anticipate client needs, navigate complexity, multitask, and thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments with shifting priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical and quantitative information clearly to specialist and non-specialist audiences and to tailor communication style to audience needs.
  • Superior integrative thinking skills, with the demonstrated ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders and to seek out, collate, and synthesize inputs from across sectoral and thematic boundaries into an integrated point of view on development outcomes.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in diverse, multicultural, multidisciplinary teams and to act as a connector between technical, analytical, and operational perspectives.
  • Strategic and creative mindset, with drive, initiative, results orientation, and flexibility, and a demonstrated interest in international development, the WBG mission and values, and in strengthening the measurement and achievement of development outcomes.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in other languages is an advantage.
