Responsibilities
- Contribute to the design, preparation, implementation, supervision, and results monitoring of lending operations, technical assistance, and advisory engagements across the relevant region.
- Prepare analytical and diagnostic work, including financial- or private-sector assessments, firm-level and policy analysis, sector notes, and operationally relevant research using quantitative methods where appropriate.
- Support policy dialogue and client engagement with government counterparts, central banks and regulators, financial institutions, incubators/accelerators, private-sector stakeholders, sovereign wealth funds, and development partners.
- Contribute to initiatives covering financial stability and inclusion, MSME finance, capital markets, investment climate, firm productivity, entrepreneurship, trade and investment, technology adoption, and private capital mobilization.
- Support the structuring and use of financial instruments, including guarantees, co-financing, debt, and equity, in coordination with IFC and MIGA where relevant.
- Draft project documents, briefs, presentations, technical notes, reports, aide-memoires, and management materials, and support portfolio, knowledge, and results reporting.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of project monitoring and results frameworks, and support impact evaluations where applicable.
- Actively participate in knowledge-sharing activities, team learning events, and dissemination of good practices within the unit and across the Practice.
- Coordinate missions, workshops, consultations, and knowledge-sharing activities, ensuring timely documentation and follow-up.
- Collaborate across WBG teams and Global Practices, including in fragile and conflict-affected contexts, and take on increasing responsibility as experience grows.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Master's degree in Economics, Finance, Public Policy, International Development, Business Administration, or a closely related field with relevant economics or finance coursework.
- 2-6 years of relevant professional experience in financial-sector development, private-sector development, public policy, development finance, research, consulting, or a related field.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Quantitative capability in econometrics, applied statistics, financial modeling, or large-dataset analysis is highly desirable, with proficiency in Stata, R, Python, or equivalent tools an advantage.
- Demonstrated expertise or experience in one or more relevant areas, such as financial stability, financial inclusion, SME finance, fintech, capital markets, infrastructure or housing finance, payment systems, firm productivity, entrepreneurship, business regulation, value chains, trade, exports, FDI, or investment climate reform.
- Sound business judgment and the ability to translate analysis into practical policy or operational recommendations.
- Exposure to project preparation, implementation support, technical assistance, impact evaluation, or RCTs is an advantage.
- Demonstrated commitment to international development and the World Bank Group's mission, including interest in working in fragile and conflict-affected settings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present analytical findings clearly to policy and client audiences.
- Ability to work effectively in multicultural, multidisciplinary, and team-based environments; strong organizational skills; and capacity to manage multiple priorities within tight deadlines.
- Fluency in English. Knowledge of a relevant regional language is an advantage.
