Driver

The incumbent will provide reliable and secure driving services including transporting authorized personnel, facilitating immigration and customs formalities, maintaining the assigned vehicle, and performing messenger duties. The role supports the WHO country presence to implement health and development agendas in Palestine.

Responsibilities

• Provide reliable and secure driving services by driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel, including for field visits, and the delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items.
• Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities, as required.
• Check for availability of all the required documents/supplies for the assigned vehicle, including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, first aid kit and necessary spare parts.
• Log official trips, daily mileage, gas/electricity consumption.
• Undertake day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, oil changes, checking tyres and brakes, car washing and making arrangements for major repairs.
• Report any incidents/accidents as per the steps outlined in the rules and regulations.
• Perform messenger duties such as handling deliveries, collecting and loading/unloading mail, documents and goods or supplies.

Requirements

• Secondary, technical, or commercial school and a valid driving license.
• Basic mechanics' certificate and first aid training (desirable).
• Minimum one year of work experience as a driver with a safe driving record.
• Experience in driving within WHO or another United Nations agency would be an asset.
• Knowledge of local traffic regulations and topography of the country.
• Understanding of protocol and organizational security standards for drivers.
• Basic mechanical knowledge and skills in operating and maintaining different types of vehicles.
• Ability to interact positively and tactfully with diverse clients.
• Ability to write official reports of incidents, read and understand instructions in the working language.
• Intermediate knowledge of English.
• Intermediate knowledge of Arabic.
