Programme Policy Officer, Nutrition

The Programme Policy Officer (NOA) will be the focal point for nutrition related programming activities in Harare, Zimbabwe. Reporting to the Programme Policy Officer Cross Cutting and under the overall guidance of the Deputy Country Director, the role involves supporting nutrition programme design, implementation, monitoring, and coordination with partners and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with nutrition specialists in other UN agencies, in particular, in UNICEF to support CO designing, planning and implementation of nutrition programmes and activities, ensuring alignment with WFP strategic objectives, national priorities, and global nutrition policies and guidelines.
• Provide regular technical support to nutrition interventions, ensuring a coordinated and effective integration with other programme aspects, such as food security, social protection, school feeding, resilience, health, and emergency response.
• Provide input and support in nutrition assessments, monitoring systems, and data collection activities to ensure the availability of high-quality evidence for programme planning, implementation, and decision-making.
• Analyse nutrition and programme performance data, identify trends and gaps, and provide strategic recommendations to strengthen programme effectiveness, accountability, and reporting.
• Lead the preparation of related reports, briefs, donor updates, and analytical products to support management decision-making and external stakeholder engagement.
• Establish and maintain effective partnerships with government ministries, UN agencies, NGOs, donors, research institutions, and other relevant stakeholders to support coordinated nutrition programming and policy development.
• Provide support to national counterparts and implementing partners to strengthen capacities in nutrition programme design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation, contributing to sustainable national systems.
• Represent WFP in technical working groups, coordination forums, and inter-agency platforms related to nutrition, food security, health, and social protection, ensuring WFP's priorities and expertise are effectively communicated.
• Contribute to resource mobilization efforts through the development of concept notes, project proposals, donor reports, and evidence-based advocacy materials to support programme expansion and sustainability.
• Support nutrition preparedness and emergency response activities, ensuring timely technical inputs and effective implementation of nutrition interventions during crises and emergencies.
• Perform other duties as required in support of WFP's Zimbabwe CSP objectives.

Requirements

• Advanced University degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences or other field relevant to international development assistance, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
• Fluency (level C) in English language and the duty station’s language, if different.
• At least one year of postgraduate professional experience in programme or project implementation, emergency preparedness.
• Experience and exposure to implementation of national/international development programmes.
• Experience working in public health/food security/ nutrition related activities.
• Experience identifying and defining nutrition issues/problems within a country.
