The Communications Assistant supports the creation of communications content and delivery of communications services to maintain and enhance WFP's visibility and reputation, supporting fundraising activities. The role involves coordination, administrative and specialized communications tasks under supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coordination, administrative and specialized services to support staff in the development, preparation and execution of communications plan for target audiences.
  • Monitor and coordinate production of communication materials, including schedules, facilities and clearances, logistics and provide support for special events, and video/film, photographic and multimedia projects.
  • Monitor traditional and social media and report relevant information to the unit to inform the development and/or evaluation of communications activities and strategies.
  • Conduct clearly defined basic research on WFP priority areas and compile information and data inputs to support communication products, briefs, visibility reports and provide data that enables informed decision-making.
  • Prepare high quality creative and digital content such as video, audio, graphics and images for social media platforms and print publications, ensuring consistency with corporate messages, branding guidelines and standards.
  • Support to organize and upload media files in multimedia hubs and publish contents in diverse internal and external platforms following relevant clearance procedures.
  • Distribute communications guidelines to WFP and partner staff to refer to when creating content.
  • Manage and maintain records and databases, such as journalist and media outlet contact lists, to ensure the information is updated, accurate, organized and readily available for others to access.
  • Gather information for responses to queries and requests for support, following standard processes, and obtaining guidance to respond as required, to ensure timely and accurate resolution of all enquiries.
  • Liaise with WFP staff in a timely manner, to support aligned activities and an effective approach to communications within WFP.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor(s).

Requirements

  • Completion of secondary school education.
  • A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in media, Communication, Digital Marketing, or Journalism is considered desirable.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive work experience in communication activities and strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform routine communication techniques and activities, videography and photography through day-to-day work.
  • Experience supporting ad-hoc guidance to new staff members.
  • Ability to take responsibility for completion of a range of communications processes and activities requiring some interpretation of standard guidelines and practices.
  • Proactiveness, good collaboration, interpersonal, networking and communication skills.
  • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team.
  • Time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and an eye to understand visual quality and graphics.
  • Experience in working with tools for graphic design and video editing like Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, etc.
  • Flexible and open to learning and new experiences.
  • Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Nepali languages.
