Security Information Analyst

The Security Information Analyst leads the department's efforts in analysis and forecasting of security information to support governance and risk management within UNRWA. The role involves monitoring security incidents, political developments, and managing security information systems to ensure the safety of UNRWA personnel, assets, and operations.

Responsibilities

• Monitor all aspects of security information affecting UNRWA personnel, assets, and operations including security incidents, situation reports, local media, and open sources.
• Identify and coordinate security information requirements and develop trend analysis; gather comprehensive information on security factors and assess relevance, validity, and reliability.
• Monitor and analyze political developments in UNRWA's fields of operation and the region; develop and track early warning indicators and assess conflict vulnerability.
• Research and produce situation assessments, field-specific security risk analysis, and evaluations of the security operating environment; disseminate security information timely to key stakeholders.
• Manage the Security Information Management System (SIMS) functionality review and enhancement; develop guidelines, provide training, and build capacity on SIMS usage.
• Supervise integration of Geographic Information System (GIS) and analysis methodology as a risk management tool at the agency level.
• Review and clarify security reporting lines across the agency and strengthen communication channels at all levels to ensure accurate and timely internal information flow.
• Coordinate with key stakeholders within and outside the agency to gather timely security information.
• Serve as focal point for Protection, Gender and Programme mainstreaming issues related to security management; coordinate joint initiatives and support integration of programmatic risk management.
• Support development and implementation of strategies, objectives, standards, planning initiatives, and management of specific projects as required.
• Travel within UNRWA's area of operations as required.

Requirements

• Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in Political or Social Science, International Relations, Statistics or related field.
• A minimum of five years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience in applied political or security analysis and research at national and/or international level, some of which preferably as a professional analyst or political affairs officer is required.
• Experience in security management, peacekeeping operations, military, police, national intelligence or other international organization is required.
• Unless already serving as an international staff member in the UN Common System, at least two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of which the candidate is a national or holds citizenship, a passport or a national identity number, is required.
• English language proficiency at UN Level III in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
• Candidates must disclose any outside activities including employment, consultancy, board membership, public speaking, teaching, voluntary work, political activity, fundraising, or other engagements.
• Candidates must adhere to UNRWA's zero-tolerance policy on misconduct including sexual exploitation and abuse, harassment, discrimination, and abuse of authority.
• Selected candidates will undergo rigorous reference and background checks including verification of academic credentials, employment history, and security clearances.
