The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) seeks a creative and motivated intern to contribute to the production of high-quality video and multimedia content supporting storytelling, digital engagement, and visibility of regional marine and coastal initiatives. The internship is located at the Nairobi Convention in the UNEP/Ecosystems Division office in Nairobi, Kenya, supporting the Convention’s programmes, projects, and reporting mechanisms.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, research, scripting and storyboarding of video and multimedia content for campaigns, events and digital platforms
  • Film and edit video content, including interviews, event highlights, short documentaries, testimonials and human-interest stories
  • Produce short-form multimedia content tailored for digital and social media platforms, including Instagram, LinkedIn, X and Facebook
  • Edit and package multimedia materials by adding subtitles, graphics, transitions, sound design and other visual elements to enhance accessibility and audience engagement
  • Support the development of visual storytelling products that showcase programme results, project impacts, regional initiatives and partner engagement
  • Assist in producing communication and multimedia materials for key events, including the Twelfth Conference of Parties (COP12) and the Nairobi Convention’s 40th anniversary activities
  • Collaborate with technical and programme teams to translate scientific, environmental and policy content into clear, compelling and audience-friendly visual narratives
  • Support the organization, cataloging, and maintenance of video, photo and multimedia archives
  • Assist in uploading and updating website and other digital content with approved multimedia materials
  • Provide support to other communication, outreach, and visibility activities of the Secretariat, as required

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent)
  • Have graduated with a university degree in film production, multimedia, communications, journalism, digital media, media production, visual arts or a related field
  • Demonstrate pleasant interpersonal skills
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views
  • Has a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and has a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter
  • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience
  • A field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required
  • Experience in video production, filming, editing and multimedia storytelling through academic work, internships, freelance assignments, volunteer work or personal projects is desirable
  • Submission of a portfolio or showreel demonstrating relevant video production and editing skills is highly desirable
