The Peacebuilding Support Office seeks an intern to support the Peacebuilding Impact Hub. The intern will assist with stakeholder coordination, prepare meeting briefs, monitor peacebuilding efforts, support policy development, prepare written outputs, and conduct outreach activities.

Responsibilities

  • Support stakeholder coordination including liaison with national and international counterparts.
  • Assist project leads and relevant colleagues in preparing meeting briefs and related materials, and support correspondence with relevant counterparts.
  • Monitor actions taken by intergovernmental groups, UN entities, and government and non-governmental organizations related to peacebuilding efforts.
  • Support policy development, assessments of issues and trends, and preparation of evaluations or research activities and studies.
  • Support preparation of written outputs and data-driven analysis including background papers, reports, and contributions to key policy documents and other knowledge products to inform planning, decision-making and reporting.
  • Support outreach activities; design and conduct training workshops, seminars, and make presentations on assigned topics/activities.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in the final year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level), or have graduated with a university degree and commence the internship within one year of graduation.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications, including Excel (advanced knowledge desirable).
  • Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
  • Field of study closely related to the type of internship applied for is required.
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree programme (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
  • Must provide proof of enrollment or graduation.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required; knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset.
  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations; costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or sponsoring institutions.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
  • Applicants who have previously served six months as an intern in one or more UN Common Systems cannot be engaged as an intern.
  • Applicants who are children, siblings, or sons/daughters-in-law of an active staff member in the UN Secretariat cannot be engaged as an intern.
