Light Vehicle Driver, G3

The Light Vehicle Driver supports the Political Affairs Service within the United Nations Mission in Afghanistan by providing safe driving services, vehicle maintenance, and logistical support. The role involves transporting authorized personnel, delivering parcels and documents, and performing minor vehicle repairs and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Makes deliveries of parcels, documents, etc. between the office and other offices and institutions.
• Makes minor purchases and collects urgent purchases from local suppliers as requested.
• Collects goods from the customs with due regard to customs regulations and formalities and may make or collect payment for goods.
• Drives vehicles safely for the transport of authorized personnel.
• Collects and delivers mail, documents, and other items.
• Meets official personnel at the airport.
• Deals effectively and tactfully with officials and visitors.
• Takes care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc., performs minor repairs and arranges for other repairs and ensures that vehicle is kept clean.
• Performs VIP and standby driver duties.
• Assists the workshop in the preparation of vehicles for field trips, such as changing wheels, cleaning air filters and general check-over.
• Logs fuel consumption, maintenance etc.
• Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of accident.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Post-secondary technical or vocational qualification in the relevant field or equivalent combination of training and experience in ground transport management is desirable.
• A valid driver's license for "B" category is required.
• A minimum of two years of experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required.
• Experience in driving armored vehicles is required.
• Work experience with the United Nations system or similar international organizations is desirable.
• Experience in driving a variety of makes and models of vehicles, including vans and other kinds of motorized vehicles is desirable.
• English is required at UN Level II for reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
• Dari is required at UN Level II for reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
• Pashto is required at UN Level II for reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
