Intern – Human Rights / Access to Justice and Fight against Impunity

The intern will support legal research on international human rights standards, assist in compiling and analyzing legal and policy information related to access to justice and transitional justice, support drafting of background notes and analytical documents, and assist in organizing information relevant to ongoing projects.

Responsibilities

• Contributing to and supporting legal research on international human rights standards, including treaty bodies and relevant jurisprudence.
• Assisting in the compilation and analysis of legal and policy information related to access to justice, enforced disappearance, transitional justice, and non-recurrence.
• Supporting the drafting of background notes and other technical or analytical documents.
• Assisting in the preparation of summaries and analytical materials.
• Supporting the organization and systematization of information relevant to ongoing projects or initiatives.
• Performing other duties as requested by the supervisor, as appropriate.

Requirements

• Applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
• Academic background in law, international relations, political science or related fields is required.
• Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
• Candidates should have strong research and analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to draft clearly and effectively.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively is desirable.
• Ability to conduct legal research and analyze international human rights standards, as well as to draft legal or policy-oriented documents, is desirable.
• Familiarity with international human rights law, transitional justice, or related areas is an asset.
• Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required for the internship.
• Knowledge of English or another official United Nations language is an advantage.
