Information Management Assistant/GIS

This position supports day-to-day activities of the Information Management Unit, providing information management support during emergencies and contributing to preparedness activities. The incumbent delivers geospatial data analysis, maintains geospatial databases, produces map products, and supports humanitarian partners through data sharing and training.

Responsibilities

• Delivers geospatial data analysis integrating baseline and operational information in line with relevant standards and guidelines; supports the production and updating of high-quality map products and online services.
• Contributes to the preparation of analytical outputs and reports based on organizational needs and reporting requirements.
• Maintains repositories of Common Operational Datasets (CODs) and relevant thematic datasets and ensures datasets are well-documented and accessible to humanitarian partners.
• Creates and maintains geospatial databases, supports data modeling, disaster impacts and exposure analysis, and maintains tools and processes for emergency preparedness and response.
• Designs and develops reference and thematic maps using CODs and operational datasets adhering to OCHA standards and guidelines.
• Develops and maintains online GIS portals and dashboards by integrating diverse datasets adhering to OCHA standards and guidelines.
• Serves as focal point for coordinating geospatial data requests and analysis activities, liaising with stakeholders to identify data needs and facilitate data sharing.
• Produces and updates information products such as maps, infographics, charts and reports; develops advocacy materials adhering to OCHA standards.
• Manages content on relevant online platforms ensuring quality control, data consistency, and compliance with metadata standards; collaborates with external partners to enhance interoperability and cross-platform integration.
• Develops guidance materials and delivers training to partners on geospatial analysis, tools, and products.
• Contributes to needs assessments and analysis processes including crisis impact analysis, humanitarian needs analysis, secondary data reviews, scenario developments and multi-sector assessments; supports management of tools and platforms for data collection and analysis.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required. A first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of two years of required experience.
• A minimum of seven years (or five years if graduated with a first-level university degree) of progressively responsible experience in geographic information systems, data analysis, mapping, data visualization, information management or related areas is required.
• At least 3 years of experience using GIS software (ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, QGIS etc), Business Intelligence tools (Power BI etc), to support decision making is required.
• At least one year of experience in data analysis and GIS, in humanitarian field in Asia-Pacific Region, is required.
• Experience in database development and maintenance of GIS systems, in the areas of emergency preparedness and response, is desirable.
• Experience in the United Nations Common System or in international organizations similar to those in the UN Common System is desirable.
• Fluency in English and Thai is required.
