Economic Affairs Intern

The internship provides an opportunity to gain first-hand experience contributing to background research for ESCAP publications and coordinating high-level intergovernmental meetings. The intern will develop analytical and coordination skills while supporting sustainable development efforts for Asia-Pacific countries with special needs.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to background research, including literature reviews, data collection and analysis and drafting inputs for the Asia-Pacific Countries with Special Needs Development Report, 2027 and other policy reports.
• Conduct research for other analytical products to support the delivery of workshops and other capacity development events.
• Contribute to the logistical and organizational coordination of intergovernmental meetings and events organized by the Section, including the Expert Group Meeting on the Asia-Pacific Countries with Special Needs Development Report, a trade related capacity building workshop in Lao People’s Democratic Republic and the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development.
• Collaborate with the team on day-to-day activities and operational tasks and perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or have graduated with a university degree and commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
• Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the Programme.
• Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
• Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset.
• Applicants should describe experience in undertaking research and data analysis with concrete examples.
• Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
• Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
• Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
