The Health & Nutrition Coordinator will contribute to improving health and nutrition of beneficiaries in Syria by providing quality primary health care including reproductive health, child health, and nutrition services. The role involves managing health and nutrition programs, coordinating with partners, ensuring compliance with donor guidelines, and capacity building of staff and partners.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide technical support to the Health and Nutrition emergency programme by leading the establishment and setting up of an integrated nutrition component in the current service delivery point.
  • Manage, develop and review detailed implementation plans for health and nutrition projects and ensure quality standards in compliance with Save the Children strategies, donor guidelines and priorities.
  • Review the partners’ narrative and financial report and prepare for the monthly BvA and Award Review Meetings.
  • Lead in the coordination and preparation of quality and timely donor reports ensuring high quality and clear progress reporting.
  • Manage and oversee the implementation of the agreed plan for health & Nutrition projects with partners, ensuring quality and meeting targets and deadlines.
  • Work closely with Emergency programme teams to ensure integrated programme approach and leverage SCI projects.
  • As budget holder, ensure compliance with donor regulations, review and revise budgets, authorize and monitor expenditure.
  • Provide supervision, guidance and direction to all Health and Nutrition staff in partner organizations.
  • Provide training, capacity building and technical support to Health & Nutrition staff and relevant ministry/partners.
  • Ensure Save the Children Child’s Protection and Safeguarding Children policies are implemented and monitored.
  • Manage Save the Children assets and funds ensuring value for money.
  • Engage with key Government Agencies Health ministry and other stakeholders to support programme implementation.
  • Ensure integrated and joined up approach to advocacy and programme work.
  • Represent Save the Children in health & nutrition related fora, meetings and workshops including relevant clusters.
  • Maintain effective communications with Health Technical Advisors and other sectors within the organization.
  • Participate actively in program and team meetings at field office level.
  • Lead multi-sectoral / health and nutrition technical assessments ensuring documentation and analysis of children’s needs.
  • Develop Health/Nutrition sector response plans and master budgets and contribute to overall response strategy.
  • Prepare and oversee Health/Nutrition programme implementation ensuring timely delivery of activities and reports.
  • Identify Health/Nutrition staffing needs and ensure rapid recruitment, induction and training of new staff.
  • Coordinate procurement plans for Health/Nutrition programme supplies with logistics team.
  • Work with MEAL team to ensure accountability activities and feedback integration in programme design.
  • Ensure minimum standards of humanitarian relief assistance are maintained according to Sphere Charter, Red Cross Code of Conduct and CHS.
  • Identify learning and training opportunities and act as mentor and role model for less experienced staff.
  • Perform any other duties as deemed necessary by the Line Manager.

Requirements

  • Qualified Health professional MD, (MPH preference) with medical background) medicine, pharmacy, public health, or other relevant health discipline with at least five years of relevant experience preferably in primary health care, preventive and curative service delivery in the context of emergencies.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to think and plan strategically.
  • Strong skills and experience in all aspects of programme development, including programme/project monitoring, review & evaluation.
  • Substantial experience of developing working relations with government, UN agencies INGO partner’s community stakeholders and beneficiaries.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and substantial experience in preparing projects proposals and reports to donors.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and commitment to capacity building of staff with proven skills as a trainer/facilitator and mentor.
  • Demonstrate skills in resource and staff management/development and the implementation of appropriate policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.
  • Ability to be self-sufficient and resourceful.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to projects and stay in basic conditions.
  • Computer skills e.g. Word, Power Point and Excel.
  • Language skills: Excellent Arabic and English – writing and speaking
  • Desirable: An area of particular expertise within humanitarian health & Nutrition.
  • Desirable: Experience of working on Health/nutrition programmes in emergencies and epidemic outbreaks.
