Health and Nutrition Coordinator

The Health and Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, ensuring technical quality, and implementing the health and nutrition components of the KINGA MAISHA project responding to the Ebola virus disease outbreak in Ituri province. The role involves operational planning, technical supervision, performance monitoring, and ensuring compliance with Save the Children standards, national health policies, WHO guidelines, humanitarian standards, and donor requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead operational planning of Health and Nutrition activities.
• Develop and update work plans, activity plans, and implementation schedules.
• Ensure coherence between activities, expected results, indicators, and project budget.
• Ensure regular coordination with Programme, MEAL, Finance, Supply Chain, and Awards teams.
• Identify delays, constraints, and risks affecting implementation and propose corrective measures.
• Coordinate activities across different intervention zones.
• Ensure integration of cross-cutting approaches including child safeguarding, gender, inclusion, accountability to affected populations, and PSEA.
• Ensure technical quality of health interventions including primary health care, maternal, neonatal and infant health, sexual and reproductive health, child health and immunization, and epidemic surveillance and preparedness.
• Supervise implementation of nutrition activities including prevention and management of malnutrition, community screening, integration of nutrition-health, promotion of infant and young child feeding practices, capacity building of providers and community agents.
• Collaborate with WASH, Protection, and Health teams for a multisectoral nutrition approach.
• Contribute to baseline assessments and ensure SSR components are considered.
• Contribute to design of health and nutrition data collection tools considering donor indicators and Ministry of Health tools.
• Contribute to documentation and management of lessons learned.
• Report and alert on child safeguarding allegations and cases according to local procedures and Save the Children policies.
• Participate in investigations on child safeguarding cases as instructed by Country Director.
• Support training and induction efforts on child safeguarding for partners and staff.

Requirements

• Be a qualified medical doctor registered with CNOM.
• University degree (minimum Bac+5 / Licence) in public health.
• Minimum two (2) years of professional experience in implementing health and nutrition programs, including preferably in humanitarian or emergency contexts.
• Ability to work in a health emergency context (Ebola), including strict adherence to infection prevention and control measures (IPC).
• Excellent command of written and spoken French.
• Availability for frequent travel and residence in intervention zones.
• Knowledge of the Ituri province context and local community dynamics.
• Knowledge of Swahili or other relevant local languages.
• At least three years of professional experience in health and nutrition.
• At least two years of proven experience in humanitarian project management.
• Proficiency in French and good knowledge of English.
• Proficiency in computer tools: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
• Desirable: Proven experience in donor reporting.
• Desirable: Experience in writing donor proposals.
