Protection Technical Assistant

The Protection Technical Assistant will contribute to assisting persons affected by displacement, violence, or other vulnerabilities by providing specialized protection services including individual protection assistance and civil self-protection. The role also involves providing information, guidance, and legal assistance for civil and identity documentation management and promoting effective access to basic services and fundamental rights such as education, housing, health, and employment.

Responsibilities

• Comply with NRC policies, tools, manuals, and guidelines.
• Support implementation of delegated projects according to the action plan.
• Contribute to report preparation as required by supervision.
• Ensure proper filing of documents.
• Support identification of populations exposed to protection risks and implementation of activities for the most vulnerable.
• Propose operational and technical improvements in field activity implementation.
• Implement specialized Individual Protection Assistance (IPA) services according to NRC strategy and procedures.
• Support community protection committees in implementing focus groups, workshops, informative sessions, and community initiatives aimed at protection outcomes.
• Support implementation and monitoring of Information, Counseling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) program activities according to NRC strategy and procedures.
• Support implementation of informative sessions, workshops, trainings, community activities, and preparation/adaptation of informational materials for various actors.
• Contribute to updating mapping of actors, services, and protection mechanisms in NRC intervention and exploration areas, especially in internal displacement contexts.
• Prepare and deliver sessions on rights, protection risks, care routes, protection mechanisms, and service access for project participants.
• Support community needs assessments, risk analysis, and identification of access barriers to rights, contributing to response actions and protection mechanisms definition.
• Collect, systematize, and report information on local context, protection risks, humanitarian needs, community capacities, and available support mechanisms in intervention areas.
• Support implementation of safe, inclusive, and protection-sensitive programming according to NRC policies and principles.
• Actively participate in planning, execution, and monitoring of programmatic activities in coordination with supervision and other NRC teams.
• Identify, document, register, attend, refer, and follow up on ICLA cases according to case management procedures and referral mechanisms.
• Provide assistance and accompaniment in legal and administrative processes related to rights access, including support in documentation preparation and case follow-up until resolution or closure.
• Apply, update, and properly file tools for data collection, monitoring, evaluation, and systematization, ensuring data quality, confidentiality, and protection.
• Maintain updated physical and digital files, databases, verification means, and other programmatic records related to project activities.
• Support coordination of administrative, logistical, financial, procurement, and contracting processes related to Protection and ICLA activities implementation according to NRC operational procedures.
• Perform any other tasks assigned by supervision to achieve program and organizational objectives.

Requirements

• Knowledge and/or experience in displacement, humanitarian assistance, protection (including legal protection).
• Knowledge of the context in Michoacán and displacement issues in Mexico.
• Knowledge of Psychological First Aid.
• Flexibility and adaptability to high vulnerability and changing environments.
• Experience working with communities affected by violence, forced displacement, or other emergencies.
• Good knowledge of local dynamics and coordination with community actors is valued.
• Bachelor's Degree.
