Protection Officer (CSP)

The Protection Officer (CSP) supports the implementation of NRC’s Civilian Self-Protection programme in Gaza, working directly with affected communities to conduct assessments, identify protection risks, facilitate trainings, and support community action plans. The role includes psychosocial support, referrals, documentation, and coordination with stakeholders to promote protection and safety.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with NRC policies, guidelines and standards.
• Ensure compliance with Protection from Violence Core Competency strategy, tools, handbooks, guidelines and standards.
• Implement technical activities of Civilian Self-Protection project(s).
• Document technical activities of Civilian Self-Protection project(s).
• Provide technical analysis and feedback to NRC representatives in coordination forums.
• Assess and promote ideas for technical improvement and programme development.
• Ensure projects target participants most in need and explore new ways to assist.
• Promote the rights of affected populations in line with advocacy strategy.
• Contribute to implementation of Safe and Inclusive Programming Minimum Standards.
• Carry out CSP activities including assessments, trainings, and community action plans.
• Provide psychosocial support and referrals as needed.
• Report daily, weekly and monthly workplan, achievements and challenges to Protection Coordinator.
• Maintain CSP files with accuracy and confidentiality.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
• Prepare procurement or payment requests for material assistance in line with case plans.
• Participate in mapping exercises and assessments to identify protection risks and needs.
• Identify barriers to access services and report on them.
• Monitor and assess safety and security in the field and report concerns.
• Participate in needs assessments, field support visits and emergency response efforts.
• Undertake other reasonable tasks assigned by management.

Requirements

• At least two years of professional experience in the humanitarian sector with international organizations.
• At least two years' experience implementing social work, community engagement, human rights, or related degree preferred, knowledge of human rights and protection.
• Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity, and flexibility.
• Good ability to organize work, meet deadlines, work independently, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.
• Level of knowledge and practice with Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. Required.
• Advanced level of Arabic, both written and verbal; English is an added advantage.
• Strong understanding of basic counselling and psychosocial support concepts; previous training in these areas strongly preferred.
• Understands rights and protection issues of target populations; experience working with affected populations is an advantage.
