The Finance Assistant position supports the day-to-day implementation of finance functions including monitoring costs, maintaining financial trackers, processing payments, and ensuring adherence to NRC policies and procedures. The role involves collaboration with various teams to ensure accurate financial management and reporting within the BRCiS programme in Somalia.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
  • Implement delegated Finance function portfolio according to plan of action.
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
  • Ensure proper filing of BRCiS documents in filling tree.
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement of the finance function.
  • Monitor costs posted in the financial system to ensure they relate to CMU activities and are charged to the correct project and budget lines and flag any discrepancies for follow-up.
  • Maintain trackers for programme and CMU travel, including travel purposes, planned and actual costs, and relevant charging codes.
  • Maintain and regularly update the consultant tracker, including contract details, budget allocations, payments, and outstanding balances.
  • Track payments due to consortium partners and follow up with CO team to ensure that payments are processed on time.
  • Maintain and regularly update the finance contact list and other financial trackers to ensure that information remains accurate and up to date.
  • Maintain the filing system (online / physical) for all financial and accounting documents for CMU.
  • Process CMU related payments, including payments to consortium partners, auditors, and other CMU service providers.
  • Ensure that all assigned trackers and financial records are accurate, complete, and regularly updated, and promptly flag issues requiring attention.
  • Carry out other relevant finance and administrative duties as assigned by the line manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience in finance or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Commerce, Finance, or a related Fields.
  • Experience in a humanitarian context or INGO work is an added advantage.
  • Proven experience operating in complex and volatile environments.
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good knowledge of financial reporting systems and accounting practices; CPA qualification is an added advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Proven capacity to collaborate with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and communicate effectively across teams.
  • Ability to work independently as well as contribute effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office and other relevant financial software.
