The Operator, Technical Security is responsible for performing technical security tasks and missions, developing and maintaining related regulations, supporting Technical Security activities including Technical Surveillance Counter Measures and Technical Security Inspections, operating In-Place Monitoring Systems, and providing technical security advice to internal stakeholders. The role requires flexibility for occasional travel and working outside normal hours.

Responsibilities

  • Implement technical security measures as required by following work plans, SOPs, and managing timeframes to successfully achieve them.
  • Identify any lessons learned, and promote a culture of continuous improvement considering the ramifications of wider security issues when encountered.
  • Maintain a standard of professionalism when performing tasks.
  • Establish and preserve good working relationships with the relevant counterparts and internal customers.
  • Communicate effectively any potential disruption caused and purposes of technical security activities whilst reporting any key findings/outcomes.
  • Monitor the life cycle of equipment and tools used and report technical issues when identified.
  • Handle sensitive information and data appropriately and in line with NATO Security Policy.
  • Develop and maintain the level of knowledge and specialist skills in the field of technical security by attending internal and external training courses, training exercises, and collaborating with more experienced colleagues and National Delegation’s technical security teams.
  • Be self-motivated to research threats and topics in the technical security domain and create a knowledge sharing culture to help develop the wider unit’s capability.
  • Perform any other related duties, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possess higher secondary education qualification with 4 years post-related experience, OR upper vocational training/post-secondary degree in a technical or security related field with 2 years post-related experience.
  • Capable of conducting physical and laborious tasks under pressure and in different working conditions, including working at heights and confined spaces.
  • Experience working effectively and cooperatively within a team environment, having strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster good working relationships.
  • Methodological approach to solving problems and attention for detail whilst working under time constraints.
  • Possess minimum levels in the official languages of NATO (English/French): V (“Advanced”) in one and I (“Beginner”) in the other.
  • Formal qualifications in a technical or scientific subject such as a level 4 qualification in engineering/physics or relevant vocational certificate in security or communication technologies (advantage).
  • Ability to effectively and safely operate specialised technical equipment independently (advantage).
  • Knowledge and/or practical experience in engineering (e.g., radio frequency/communications, electrical/electronics, information communication technology including TEMPEST, construction, technical drawings), security (e.g., physical/electronic security systems including alarms & CCTV, or technical security including TSCM and IPMS), or surveillance (e.g., technical operations, offensive cyber operations, etc.) (advantage).
