The consultant will support archaeological excavation and survey activities at the Khortytsia National Reserve in Ukraine, contributing to monitoring and documentation of archaeological sites affected by conflict. This role provides practical experience and training under expert supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake tasks related to archaeological excavation and survey activities as instructed by the Reserve’s staff
  • Work part-time for 4 weeks, 18 hours per week (total 72 hours)
  • Investigate two locations in the northeastern part of Khortytsia Island, including a site from the eighteenth century and a Bronze Age settlement
  • Determine whether the Sovutyna Ravine site represents a Cossack winter settlement or a military camp from the Russian-Turkish War period
  • Locate the Bronze Age cultural layer and determine the extent of the settlement north of Sovutyna Ravine
  • Submit regular progress reports for UNESCO approval

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in History, Archaeology, or a related field
  • Previous collaboration with the Khortytsia National Reserve is considered an advantage
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in English is considered an asset
