National Consultant, Rapid Market Assessment for Girls’ Skills Development and Economic Empowerment in Katsina State

The consultancy will deliver practical, evidence-based recommendations to identify priority sectors and livelihood pathways accessible to adolescent girls, align Skills4Girls training with local labour market demand, address gender-based barriers, and inform scalable interventions to strengthen employability, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion in Katsina State, Nigeria.

Responsibilities

• Identify priority sectors and livelihood pathways that are accessible, safe, and socially acceptable for adolescent girls.
• Align Skills4Girls training interventions with local labour market demand.
• Address structural and gender-based barriers to girls’ participation in education, training, and employment.
• Inform the design of context-sensitive and scalable interventions that strengthen employability, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion.

Requirements

• Master`s degree in economics, statistics, education, gender and development, or related fields.
• Minimum eight years of experience in economics, labour market research, skills development, or girls’ and women’s economic empowerment programming.
• Demonstrated experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research.
• Experience working on adolescent and youth-related programming.
• Strong expertise in gender and social inclusion analysis.
• Knowledge of Nigeria’s labour market, education and skills development systems, and policy environment.
• Strong analytical and report-writing skills.
• Experience working with UN agencies or development partners.
• Ability to engage with government stakeholders.
• Fluent in English.
• Knowledge of Hausa.
• Experience working in northern Nigeria (desirable).
• Familiarity with UNICEF programmes and systems (desirable).
