The Intern – Project Development and Communication will support the Country Office’s project development, programme visibility, outreach, communication, and advocacy efforts. The intern will contribute to communication strategies, project development processes, media relations, public information campaigns, and digital engagement initiatives to increase awareness of IOM’s interventions and strengthen stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of the Country Office’s external communication and visibility strategy in line with IOM’s strategic priorities, donor requirements, and communication guidelines, with the aim of strengthening public awareness, stakeholder engagement, and organizational visibility.
- Assist in project development and programme support processes by contributing to the drafting of concept notes, project proposals, background documents, presentations, and donor visibility inputs, while supporting coordination and information gathering across programme teams.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of the Country Office’s contributions to national, regional, and international communication and advocacy campaigns, including those related to UN International Days, to enhance awareness on migration-related issues and promote IOM’s mandate and interventions.
- Support programme and project teams in ensuring compliance with donor visibility requirements and contribute to the design and production of information and communication materials such as factsheets, brochures, newsletters, infographics, and audiovisual content.
- Collect, draft, and edit success stories, human-interest stories, and impact narratives highlighting beneficiaries and project achievements.
- Assist in the preparation, editing, and dissemination of press releases, talking points, media briefs, web stories, and public information materials related to activities, events, and projects implemented by IOM Senegal.
- Undertake duty travel to document field activities through high-quality photographs, videos, interviews, and multimedia content, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with digital informed consent, protection principles, and ethical communication standards.
- Support the management of the Country Office’s digital communication platforms, including social media accounts and website updates, by ensuring timely content production, audience engagement, monitoring of communication performance, and alignment with IOM branding and communication standards.
- Support the organization and visibility of events, workshops, missions, and public campaigns, and contribute to knowledge management, reporting, and stakeholder engagement efforts aimed at strengthening partnerships, donor visibility, and evidence-based communication at national and regional levels.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Requirements
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent), or in a Master's degree or higher in Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or, have graduated with a university degree in Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies or a related field, and if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.
- Previous experience or demonstrated interest in communication, media, journalism, project development, public information, visibility, advocacy, or programme support is desirable.
- Experience in content creation, social media management, graphic design, photography, videography, or audiovisual production would be an advantage.
- Experience working in multicultural environments, student organizations, NGOs, UN agencies, or community initiatives would be an asset.
- Familiarity with migration, development, humanitarian, or international cooperation issues is desirable.
- Communication, project development, visibility, and advocacy skills.
- Project development support, including drafting concept notes, proposals, donor visibility materials, and presentations.
- Good writing, editing, analytical research, and reporting skills.
- Graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva (desirable).
- Good knowledge of digital communication tools and social media platforms.
- Photography, videography, and multimedia content production would be an advantage.
- Good organizational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Fluency in English and French (oral and written) is required.
- Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.
