The Emergency Assistant Intern will support the preparation, coordination, and implementation of UNICEF's emergency interventions in Niger. The role involves assisting in emergency preparedness, humanitarian coordination, monitoring, reporting, and partnership mobilization to ensure effective response to crises affecting children and families.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and updating of emergency preparedness and response plans (EPP).
  • Contribute to risk analysis, scenario identification, and pre-positioning of emergency stocks.
  • Participate in simulation exercises and capacity building for staff and partners.
  • Participate in rapid needs assessments during crises and propose priority actions.
  • Coordinate sectoral interventions (WASH, nutrition, health, child protection, education).
  • Represent UNICEF in coordination mechanisms such as clusters, inter-agency meetings, and local authorities.
  • Monitor emergency activities and collect reliable data on results.
  • Prepare situation reports (SitReps), information notes, and donor contributions.
  • Identify bottlenecks and propose corrective measures.
  • Support collaboration with implementing partners, NGOs, and government authorities.
  • Contribute to the development of funding proposals and monitoring partnership agreements.
  • Ensure integration of accountability to affected populations (AAP) principles.
  • Guarantee respect for child protection, gender, and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) standards.
  • Promote the Core Commitments for Children (CCC) in all interventions.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within 2 years) with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in humanitarian action, social sciences, international relations, crisis and disaster management, public health, international development, political science, international law, project management, or related fields.
  • Age between 18 and 35 years at the time of application.
  • Fluency in French is required; knowledge of English is an asset.
  • Good computer skills including proficiency in office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and internet use.
  • Excellent academic results or strong academic/professional recommendation letters.
  • No immediate family member working at UNICEF.
  • Demonstrated UNICEF core values: Care, Respect, Integrity, Trust, Accountability, and Sustainability (CRITAS).
  • Basic competencies including partnership building, self-awareness and ethics, result orientation, innovation and change adoption, managing ambiguity and complexity, strategic thinking and acting, and collaborative work.
