The Blood Collection Staff role involves assisting with every step of the blood collection process including setting up equipment, creating a welcoming environment for donors, and following safety procedures to collect lifesaving blood donations. Paid training is provided with no prior medical experience required, and the position supports the mission of the American Red Cross as part of the world's largest humanitarian network.
Responsibilities
- Utilize healthcare and/or customer service skills to assist with every step of the blood collection process
- Collaborate with team to transport and setup equipment at collection sites in local communities
- Create a welcoming and comfortable environment for volunteer donors
- Follow all safety procedures while collecting lifesaving blood donations
- Take time to personally connect with donors and help them understand the impact of their donation
- Collaborate with teammates to create a friendly environment so donors feel comfortable returning
- Be detail oriented to ensure blood collected meets goals and regulatory requirements and can be safely transfused
- May drive Red Cross vehicles and work with team to setup and tear down equipment at donation sites
- Work variable shifts including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills are required
- A current, valid driver's license with good driving record is required
- Physical requirements may include the ability to lift, push or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs
- Good manual dexterity is required
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes is required
- Position may require minimum height of 60 inches to ensure the ability to safely operate Red Cross vehicles
- Basic computer skills are required
- Must be proficient with Microsoft office applications
- Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (CNA, MA, EMT, etc.) is preferred
- Prior leadership experience is preferred
