See your match score & applyThe Project Assistant (Interpreter) supports the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) programme by providing Arabic to English or Turkish interpretation services, clerical support, and assisting with migrant intake and information dissemination. The role requires maintaining neutrality during interpretation and supporting reporting and statistics as needed.
Responsibilities
- Provide Arabic to English or Turkish interpretation services for IOM AVRR programme activities maintaining neutrality and avoiding personal inputs.
- Provide clerical support to IOM AVRR staff during counselling preparation.
- Provide ad hoc support for written Arabic and English/Turkish translations.
- Assist with the intake of migrants when needed.
- Provide general information on AVRR programme and answer basic queries on procedures to migrants when needed.
- Contribute to reporting and statistics as requested.
- Comply with the IOM Standards of Conduct and Confidentiality Agreement.
- Maintain professional appearance and migrant-friendly demeanour at all times.
- Maintain positive working relationships within the IOM team and with government authorities.
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion in treating applicants’ medical and personal information.
- Assist the process of referring vulnerable migrants with special needs.
- Immediately inform management of any problems or issues related to daily work and suggest improvements.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, Linguistics, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two year of relevant professional experience.
- Completed High school diploma from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant experience.
- Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups is an advantage.
- Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
- Experience in translation in case management processes is an advantage.
- In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the organization.
- Knowledge of implementing emergency/humanitarian projects.
- Microsoft Office Skills, for any necessary field reporting.
- Fluency in Arabic and Turkish or English (oral and written) is required.
- Working knowledge of UN languages or Farsi is advantageous.
