The Field Security Associate assists with the implementation of security operations and management of safety and security for UN personnel in the Area of Responsibility. The role involves liaising with host government security organizations, assessing security situations, maintaining security plans, reporting incidents, and providing security training and briefings.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Security Adviser in collecting, updating and communicating information regarding the security situation in the Area of Responsibility (AoR).
  • Liaises and coordinates with host government security organizations and personnel, including national and local authorities, military, police, and NGOs.
  • Helps assess the security situation at the duty station and ensures adequate gathering and verification of security information.
  • Communicates security information to heads of UN agencies and provides host country security advice to UNDSS.
  • Maintains regular contacts with Security Focal Points of UN agencies.
  • May provide technical assistance at Area/Security Management Team meetings.
  • Assists in maintaining and updating the Security Plan and staff lists.
  • Helps prepare and review the UN Security Plan and supports its implementation.
  • Assists with monitoring security measures implementation as recommended in the Security Risks Management process.
  • Assists in reporting security incidents and preparing security reports.
  • Provides support in organizing and conducting security awareness training and orientation for new staff.
  • Conducts security briefings as required.
  • Provides support in conducting security evaluations and advises on Residential Security Measures.
  • Establishes and maintains warden system and updates information related to UN offices and residences.
  • Administers a pass and ID system.
  • Maintains liaison with commercial security companies for effective guard force use.
  • Provides general administrative assistance including maintaining correspondence files, databases, arranging appointments, receiving visitors, screening calls, and taking minutes.
  • Performs other security-related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Seven (7) years of work experience in security, risk or disaster or emergency areas with security responsibilities, in the public or private service areas, such as national security, military or police, or in a corporate environment is required.
  • The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft applications i.e. Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint is required.
  • Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable.
  • Experience in the use of radio communications systems is desirable.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license for Chile is required.
