The Consultant will support the implementation of the Regular Programme activities of the Science Sector with emphasis on MOST, Youth, Sports, AI Ethics, and frontier digital technologies. The role involves program design, coordination, monitoring, reporting, and promoting interinstitutional articulation and representation of UNESCO in national and regional spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Support analytical inputs to strategic institutional dialogues for country programming aligned with the Office's mandate.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses to support program, policy and norm conceptualization in the Sector.
  • Assist ongoing projects within the sector, including activities under Work Plans.
  • Support reporting on Sector activities responding to requests from countries and internal agency instances.
  • Participate in the formulation of extrabudgetary project proposals.
  • Monitor and support implementation of global initiatives.
  • Provide technical, logistical and administrative support to all sector activities.
  • Support participation of interagency groups on PEAS, Youth and Gender in all countries and other groups related to the Science Programme mandate.
  • Participate in UN System team meetings in El Salvador as requested by the Director.
  • Accompany and represent the Science sector when required.
  • Contribute to mainstreaming gender, human rights and interculturality approaches in design, implementation and monitoring of Sector activities.
  • Perform additional tasks as requested by the Science Programme Specialist and the UNESCO Office Director in San José.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in International Law, International Relations, Social Sciences, Public Policy or related fields.
  • At least 8 years of proven experience in planning, designing, implementing, coordinating programmatic, administrative and financial aspects of sustainable development projects.
  • Capacity for budget management, financial and administrative monitoring.
  • Excellent writing skills in Spanish and English.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in logistical support for events.
  • Experience in correspondence handling and file management.
  • Proficiency in current office software applications and virtual tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple processes simultaneously.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Experience in preparing technical documents, reports and others.
  • Experience in coordinating interinstitutional work teams.
  • Excellent analytical, research, identification, systematization and experience analysis skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a professional context.
  • Excellent presentation skills for diverse audiences for consultation, review and/or dissemination purposes.
  • Desirable: Professional experience in UN system agencies.
  • Desirable: Experience coordinating UN interagency projects.
  • Desirable: Basic experience in social media management and communication for social projects.
  • Desirable: Knowledge and relations with the UN system in El Salvador.
