The intern will support OHCHR in its mission to protect human rights, empower people to realize their rights, and assist those responsible for upholding rights. The intern will work within the Donor and External Relations sub-section at OHCHR’s Representation Office to the European Union in Brussels, assisting in donor intelligence, resource mobilization, and project portfolio management related to human rights.

Responsibilities

  • Research and prepare reports, briefing notes and other written documents on donor intelligence matters, including fundraising possibilities related to Human Rights and Climate Change/Environment.
  • Support project implementation, especially monitoring and reporting on selected projects in coordination with HQ or field units.
  • Contribute to preparation of high quality project proposals and related information for negotiation of EU contributions to OHCHR.
  • Attend relevant meetings and consultations with partners in the region on behalf of OHCHR, including public presentations.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Office Team.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be enrolled in the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (Bachelor's degree or equivalent), or enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master's degree or equivalent or higher), or have completed such a degree, preferably in international relations, business, marketing, journalism, communication, social sciences or related field.
  • No prior work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
  • Prior work or internship experience at the UN, NGO or private sector is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of French is an asset.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish) is an advantage.
  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
  • Interns are responsible for costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may need to obtain appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
