Construction Specialist

The Construction Specialist is responsible for coordinating construction activities under the Education Programme, including planning, procurement support, and monitoring construction works on site. The role involves collaboration with UNICEF Operations and Government partners to ensure sustainable, inclusive, and high-quality learning environments in disadvantaged areas.

Responsibilities

• Preparation of construction annual workplan
• Collaboration with UNICEF Programme and coordination with Government counterparts
• Preparation of design and technical documents
• Support to procurement process
• Monitoring of construction projects

Requirements

• Master or equivalent (Advanced University Degree) in civil engineering, construction engineering, architecture, environmental engineering
• 5 years of relevant work experience in UN and/or NGO in construction management, education infrastructure, project management, procurement, contract management, site supervision, architectural design, sustainable design, environmental compliance, stakeholder management
• Experience in an emergency setting is strongly preferred
• Resourcefulness, flexibility, and the ability to prioritize substantial amounts of work while under pressure
• Good analytical, facilitation, communication, and presentation skills
• Politically and culturally sensitive, aware of gender issues, with qualities of patience, tact, and diplomacy
• French - Proficient/Fluent
• Desirable: Knowledge of English and another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish)
• Desirable: Developing-country experience, UN system experience, additional UN language, maternal health, neonatal health, humanitarian preparedness
• Desirable: Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts
