See your match score & applyThe Protection Officer is responsible for overseeing and supervising the effective and high-quality implementation of protection interventions including GBV, PRoL and child protection in targeted sites in response to the humanitarian crisis. The role involves planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and coordination with partners and local authorities to ensure equitable access to protection services for displaced persons, returnees, and vulnerable populations.
Responsibilities
- Planning and implementation of protection activities including child and women protection activities in collaboration with IRC partners
- Ensure the planning of activities on a weekly and monthly basis with implementing partners
- Conduct protection needs assessments and identify risks related to protection of children and women
- Implement psychosocial activities for children and adults
- Conduct training and provide technical support to local actors in protection
- Develop and monitor capacity-building plans for partners
- Design and deliver training modules and support trainers
- Document and distribute training course materials
- Provide technical support in project approaches such as psychosocial support, SAFE, Parenting, CBO, Girlshine, IDTR
- Distribute dignity kits for vulnerable women and adolescents
- Support local actors in violence prevention and response mechanisms
- Train community structures on project topics
- Ensure community structures carry out their tasks
- Organize workshops on protection risk plans
- Train community facilitators and partners on SAFE, Girlshine, and Parenting approaches
- Monitor implementation of sessions by partners
- Establish referral mechanisms for children and women
- Lead community mobilization and awareness activities
- Collaborate with local authorities and community leaders to establish protection strategies
- Monitor activities quantitatively and qualitatively
- Ensure adherence to Minimum Standards on GBV and Child Protection
- Involve children and beneficiaries in activities
- Plan and conduct field visits to monitor protection activities and support partners
- Produce periodic reports and ensure timely submission
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluation data collection
- Produce activity reports presenting results and lessons learned
- Support community action plans for protection
- Participate and lead in meetings, report writing, and external information requests
- Participate in protection coordination forums
- Organize meetings with other organizations for holistic services
- Draft and distribute meeting minutes
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor and supervise teams
- Ensure timely collection and transmission of monitoring data
- Verify and validate contractual deliverables from partners
- Maintain positive relationships with team members and promote team spirit
- Provide advice and technical support to team members
- Ensure quality of integration activities
- Collaborate with other IRC sectors and participate in coordination meetings
- Ensure smooth documentation and archiving of program materials
- Coordinate logistical requirements with project manager and logistics department
- Ensure compliance with safety rules in field missions and use of IRC resources
- Maintain contact with partners, authorities, and community to improve response quality
- Report problems or incidents to supervisor and liaise with stakeholders for security
- Perform other tasks as requested by supervisor
- Prepare schedules for team movements and submit for approval
Requirements
- Hold at least a bachelor's degree in social sciences or other relevant fields
- Have at least 5 years of proven professional experience in the humanitarian field or with NGOs
- Have at least 3 years of proven experience in the protection sector, particularly general protection, child protection and GBV, with a thorough understanding of prevention and response approaches in these sectors
- Have received training in child protection and GBV case management supervision
- Strong capacity in partner management and supervision
- Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills
- Familiarity with approaches to supporting adolescent girls in the context of GBV prevention and reducing the use of harmful coping mechanisms among adolescents
- Experience in socio-economic reintegration and in the field of community awareness and mobilization
- Experience in capacity building/training organization and post-training follow-up
- Good knowledge of the intervention area and local languages of the project area
- Good communication skills
- Organizational skills and attention to detail
- Be able to take relevant initiatives for the program as needed
- Be available to travel to the target areas for services
- Willingness and ability to work in a volatile environment
- Strong resistance to stress and ability to work at a fast pace in emergency situations
- Have acceptable computer skills, specifically in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
