The Coordinator for Education in Emergencies (EiE) is responsible for initiating, implementing, and coordinating EiE interventions in areas affected by sudden displacements in Gaza province. The role involves developing preparedness plans, coordinating with local authorities and clusters, supervising EiE activities to ensure effective education continuity for children affected by crises, and supporting psychosocial and educational needs in emergency contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate, implement and coordinate Education in Emergencies interventions in Gaza province affected by sudden displacements.
  • Develop preparedness plans to implement an integrated EiE package in coordination with the Education Cluster and local authorities including Provincial Directorate of Education, District Education, Youth and Technology Services, and schools.
  • Identify and train community volunteers, teachers and other stakeholders to support children in crisis situations.
  • Supervise EiE activities to ensure effective lifesaving measures and continuity of education for children affected by crises.
  • Conduct Rapid Needs Assessments in coordination with other sectors such as CPiE, WASH, Nutrition.
  • Ensure quality data collection and reporting related to emergency activities conducted by the Emergency Program, including use of school trigger tools to assess affected schools and prioritize humanitarian education assistance.
  • Coordinate closely with other Emergency Program team members to ensure programmatic integration with other Save the Children response components, mainly CPiE and WASH activities.
  • Make appropriate referrals to other service providers as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Services, Pedagogy, Psychology, Sociology, Human Rights or related fields, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Education in Emergencies programs with a humanitarian organization working in emergency contexts.
  • Previous experience and strong skills in mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) and psychological first aid (PFA), including Basic Emergency School Plan (PEBE).
  • Experience working with community mechanisms and informal structures.
  • Experience in integrated programming and project and team management.
  • Experience in capacity building, training, and mentoring staff, teachers, school education authorities, community volunteers on education thematic issues.
  • Ability to identify key education gaps in a given context to support a holistic response for children.
  • Good knowledge and experience using inter-agency standards and guidelines established in Education in Emergency situations.
  • Experience and commitment to working through community participation and accountability systems.
  • Experience in capacity building and strengthening understanding and response of various education stakeholders in emergencies.
  • Computer literacy, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Highly desirable experience in qualitative data collection through focus group discussions and semi-structured interviews with key informants.
  • Excellent planning, coordination, and communication skills with ability to independently organize complex workloads even in remote locations with limited support.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with experience in teamwork, training, and supervision of community activists and volunteers.
  • Willingness to work in unstable and potentially insecure environments and travel to remote isolated areas, including overnight stays in tents when no other accommodation is available.
  • Commitment to Save the Children values and principles, with good understanding of the organization's mandate and approach.
  • Good personal organization skills including time management and ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • Fluency in Portuguese (native level) and good command of English (spoken and written).
  • Knowledge of oral Swangana or other local languages is highly desirable.
