The WASH Manager will strengthen programme quality, implementation oversight, and accountability across the WASH portfolio in Nigeria. The role supports evidence-based decision-making, ensures high standards of UNICEF-supported interventions, and achieves sustainable results for children and communities.
Responsibilities
- Strengthen programme quality, consistency, implementation oversight and accountability across the WASH portfolio.
- Support evidence-based decision-making and improve confidence in reported results by partners, donors and stakeholders.
- Ensure UNICEF-supported interventions are delivered to a high standard and achieve sustainable results for children and communities.
- Manage the development, preparation, management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the WASH programme.
- Improve consistency and quality of WASH infrastructure and services across programme areas.
- Strengthen approaches to monitoring, documentation, and verification of programme results.
- Enhance use of risk-informed planning and implementation practices.
- Increase confidence in reported results by partners, donors, and stakeholders.
- Strengthen timely identification and resolution of implementation challenges within the country programme.
- Provide technical guidance and management support throughout programming processes.
- Provide authoritative advisory services to government and sector support agencies and interact with senior government and International Development Banks staff.
- Support strengthening of quality assurance, risk-informed programming, and implementation oversight across the WASH portfolio.
- Ensure programme interventions are delivered in line with technical norms and resources are used effectively.
- Contribute to enhancing transparency, accountability, and value for money through strengthened monitoring systems, partner support, and field-level verification of results.
- Travel significantly to Maiduguri and other conflict-affected areas as required.
Requirements
- Master or equivalent (Advanced University Degree) in Public Health, Social Science, Construction Management, Sanitary engineering, Civil Engineer, Construction Management, MBA and any other related fields.
- At least 8 years of relevant work experience in WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene), Construction oversight, Internal controls, Contract management, and any other related fields.
- Skills in Quality assurance, Contract management, Risk management, Compliance oversight, Financial stewardship, Due diligence.
- English - Proficient/Fluent.
- Desirable: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language.
- Desirable: UN experience, Complex environments, Conflict settings, Result verification.
- Desirable: Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
