The Director of the Innovation Centre leads INTERPOL's platform for member countries and stakeholders to share innovations, including AI-enabled solutions, for law enforcement. The role involves strategic management of the Directorate, leveraging innovation to support law enforcement globally, and fostering partnerships to pilot and scale innovative approaches.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a principal advisor to the Secretary General and Executive Director for Capacity Building and Innovation on the strategic direction of the Organization’s approaches to support innovation for both law enforcement and the General Secretariat.
  • Be the principal driver of this INTERPOL capability by organizing specific, related activities and an annual flagship event.
  • Develop the Directorate as a global reference point for facilitating innovation in policing and retaining the internal lead on the adoption of innovative culture, practices, and solutions across the Organization, leveraging AI as a cross-cutting strategic enabler, in line with operational needs.
  • Monitor innovation-related key deliverables and results aligned with INTERPOL Strategic Framework, while coordinating externally funded innovation-related projects at INTERPOL to maximize global impact.
  • Supervise the building of a platform for facilitating innovation through international police cooperation.
  • Deliver support to member countries in applying innovative practices and solutions in national settings, including the strategic application of AI.
  • Deliver support to other INTERPOL directorates in developing and applying innovative practices and solutions, including the strategic application of AI.
  • Lead, supervise, promote and enhance the delivery of the sub-directorates.
  • Oversee implementation of structured pilot initiatives with selected operational units and member countries, ensuring early end-user involvement, including AI-enabled capabilities in line with operational needs.
  • Build INTERPOL’s engagement with the global innovation ecosystem; and build strategic partnerships with academia, private sector companies, civil society organizations, and other international organizations to co-develop, pilot, and validate solutions for global law enforcement.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the hierarchy.

Requirements

  • University degree (Masters) in a relevant domain.
  • Profound expertise in the area of international police cooperation, strategy and innovation at the executive management level in a law enforcement environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of innovation processes.
  • 10 to 15 years of successful managerial experience and leadership in international cooperation and/or innovation area.
  • Demonstrated ability to cope effectively with multiple concurrent and complex tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team, manage personnel, motivate them and encourage teamwork.
  • Ability to conduct needs analysis and evaluate alternative solutions.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with a wide variety of users.
  • Ability to mitigate conflicts.
  • Demonstrated initiative, pro-activeness and good negotiation skills.
  • Fluency in English required.
  • Proficiency in at least another official working language of the Organization (Arabic, French, Spanish) is desirable.
  • Fluency/proficiency in more languages would be considered as an additional asset.
