See your match score & applyThe Health, Safety, Social and Environmental Specialist provides remote technical support on veterinary health, animal production, veterinary services, and related fields to UNOPS CAMCO teams. The specialist advises on design, implementation, procurement, quality assurance, and risk management of veterinary-related projects and activities.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical advice on animal health and veterinary services to project teams, including livestock health, veterinary service delivery, disease prevention, surveillance, biosafety, and implementation risks.
- Prepare and review technical specifications and terms of reference for veterinary medicines, vaccines, cold chain equipment, laboratory materials, livestock equipment, vaccination campaigns, veterinary training, surveillance activities, and technical studies.
- Support procurement processes, technical evaluation of veterinary products and services, review supplier documents, analyze technical compliance, and clarify procurement-related issues.
- Contribute to project design, donor proposals, and technical reports related to animal health and livestock development.
Requirements
- Bachelor (or equivalent) in veterinary medicine, animal health, animal production, veterinary public health, epidemiology, or animal disease control with at least 7 years of relevant professional experience or a Master's degree in one of the mentioned fields with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent qualification is strongly desired.
- At least 7 years of relevant professional experience (with a Bachelor) or 5 years (with a Master) in animal health, veterinary services, livestock development, disease surveillance, vaccination campaigns, veterinary medicines, laboratory services, or One Health programs.
- 5 years of experience preparing procurement documents is required.
- Experience in public veterinary systems and donor-funded projects is strongly desired.
- 5 years of experience working on projects funded by international donors, multilateral banks, or UN organizations is strongly desired.
- 5 years of experience working in Central Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, or fragile and logistically complex contexts is a strong asset.
- Good knowledge of animal health, livestock systems, veterinary services, and animal production.
- Mastery of technical specifications for veterinary medicines, vaccines, laboratory equipment, cold chain, livestock equipment, and veterinary services.
- Knowledge of vaccination campaigns, epidemiological surveillance, biosafety, animal disease control, and the One Health approach.
- Ability to analyze risks related to animal diseases, veterinary public health, veterinary product quality, and field implementation.
- Ability to review technical dossiers, compliance documents, certificates, vaccination protocols, laboratory reports, and contractor deliverables.
- Experience supporting livestock, animal health, or veterinary services projects funded by donors.
- Ability to contribute to concept notes, proposals, terms of reference, evaluation criteria, and technical reports.
