The internship supports the Passenger and Cargo Control Programme (PCCP) targeting illicit trafficking through containerized shipments and high-risk passengers. The intern will conduct research, assist in drafting documents, prepare training and promotional materials, and support data organization, working remotely from Kyiv, Ukraine for six months.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake research work using electronic sources in the field of transnational organized crime with emphasis on illicit trafficking and other relevant topics.
  • Assist in drafting concept notes and background documents to suggest operational ways forward for the Programme.
  • Assist the PCCP team in desk work including fact-checking, editing and proof-reading.
  • Assist in preparation of training, promotional materials, social media tweets and website updates.
  • Ensure efficient and accurate collection and organization of data through establishing and maintaining files using accepted organizational methods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Possess an academic background in the field of political science, international relations, security studies, criminal justice or related discipline.
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
  • A field of study closely related to the type of internship applied for is required.
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
  • Successful candidates should provide an official certificate at a later stage.
