The Intern – Information Management (IM) will support the information management workstream and activities within the Asia-Pacific Regional Data Hub (RDH) under supervision. The role involves assisting with data compilation, cleaning, survey form updates, and supporting data quality control and reporting related to migration and displacement data.

Responsibilities

  • Support the RDH IM Officer in the compilation and basic cleaning of data for DTM and other information management activities, including assisting with survey templates and data organization in line with standard formats.
  • Assist in identifying and reviewing new tools and technologies related to information management and sharing summaries with the team.
  • Support the RDH IM Officer in coordination with field colleagues and partners by helping to gather updates, compile information, and document lessons learned.
  • Assist in the updating and testing of ODK/Kobo survey forms under guidance.
  • Support the preparation of basic tabulations and inputs for reports, information products, and other materials related to displacement and migration, under supervision.
  • Contribute to the production of information products (e.g. reports, profiles, maps) by supporting data compilation, formatting, and quality checks.
  • Provide basic support to field missions on data entry, database use, and troubleshooting, with guidance from supervisors.
  • Assist in extracting data from databases as requested by team members.
  • Assist in applying quality control checks on datasets based on existing guidance and best practices.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent) in Computer Science, or Social Sciences with a minor related to Information Management or any other relevant area from an accredited institution; or, be enrolled in a graduate school programme or graduated within the last 12 months with a Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, or Social Sciences with a minor related to Information Management or any other relevant area from an accredited institution.
  • Academic exposure to Information Management, including supporting the organization of information flows and basic data handling (e.g. collection, storage, and processing of data).
  • Basic familiarity with information management systems and processes, with willingness to learn their design and implementation.
  • Foundational skills in data visualization and information presentation, with an interest in improving these skills.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI, ArcGIS/QGIS, R/Python, Adobe Illustrator/InDesign) is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated interest in migration research.
  • Able to adapt to an international, multicultural, multilingual environment.
  • Good communication skills and able to work in a team.
  • Familiarity with computer programmes, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher).
  • Advanced English writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge regarding quantitative statistical (social science/human mobility/migration) data analysis.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and visualization programs, (e.g. PowerBI, ArcMap/QGIS, Stata, SPSS, Knowledge of R, Tableau, Adobe Illustrator and In-Design) will be considered an advantage.
  • Webpage as well as database development and management skills an advantage.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required; working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.
