The Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) Team Lead supports the Service to Armed Forces and International Services Division mission by supervising a team to administer American Red Cross services to U.S. military members, veterans, and their families. This mobile position requires worldwide deployment readiness and involves managing daily operations, volunteer programs, community outreach, and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise team to administer the delivery of American Red Cross services to meet the needs of United States military members, veterans, and their families in accordance with Red Cross policies and procedures.
  • Manage the daily operations and provide guidance, support and assistance to Red Cross offices in establishing, growing and maintaining programs and services.
  • Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State and local regulations.
  • Provide guidance, support and assistance to Red Cross field personnel, and ensure programs and services are carried out consistently and in accordance with specified Red Cross policies and procedures within their assigned area.
  • Responsible for management of a team which may include hiring, assigning work, coordinating, training, coaching, and evaluating performance of staff.
  • Build strong relationships with military leadership, key organizations, and community leaders.
  • Cultivate relationships and partnerships with external constituents in the local community, including government organizations, corporate partners, civic organizations, and other community charitable and nonprofit agencies.
  • Build community presence through enhancing marketing opportunities with local Armed Forces Network, utilization of social media platforms, and leveraging local base advertising opportunities.
  • Manage a volunteer engagement program and cycle to enable delivery of all Red Cross programs and services on a military installation and in their local community.
  • Recruit and train leadership volunteers to support placement and supervision of staff and programs.
  • Effectively utilize the Volunteer Connection Platform to manage, document, train, recognize and communicate with volunteers.
  • Ensure the consistent delivery of SAF and IS U.S. services to all clients in their area.
  • Provide supervision of volunteer Service Delivery staff.
  • Coordinate services to military treatment facilities and VA hospitals through rehabilitation programs, material assistance, resiliency training and morale items and support.
  • Ensure community outreach, including command meetings and education briefings, presentations, or workshops.
  • Ensure a strong military community outreach program and implementation of special events and projects in support of SAF/IS U.S. initiatives.
  • Manage support services to military members and their families including family follow-up information and referrals.
  • Provide support for the emergency communications center with local information, as appropriate.
  • Develop outreach strategies aimed at promoting International Services U.S. programs to the community.
  • Provide assistance on projects and work assignments as needed.
  • Monitor and report on the outcomes and results of programs and services to ensure organizational accountability and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Develop and manage budgets and expenditures to ensure programs are operating within budget.
  • Support both the day-to-day operations and emergency needs of the Hero Care Center as a member of the Hero Care Network Contingency Team.
  • Complete all trainings and requirements to maintain casework proficiency, including working shifts and participating in readiness drills.
  • Respond to emergency, surge, and disaster situations, as needed.
  • Maintain all medical and security requirements.
  • Engage in annual deployment familiarization program including trainings and meetings.
  • When activated to deploy, participate in additional trainings and meetings to prepare for deployment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, human resources management, community organization, social or health sciences, or related field is required; or related equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of three years related experience in program management or related field is required.
  • 1 year of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).
  • Must be able to operate independently, with initiative, and manage an assigned area of responsibility, with general supervision.
  • Strong computer skills are required.
  • Public speaking skills and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing are required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with multiple priorities are essential.
  • Familiarity with military culture, regulations and protocol is strongly desired.
  • Ability to work on a team.
  • Travel is required.
  • Experience with American Red Cross programs and military experience is strongly desired.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to obtain a secret security clearance and a no-fee U.S. passport.
  • Worldwide mobility is a condition of employment and an essential function of this position.
  • Must accept work assignments anywhere in the world, including conflict areas, where the American Red Cross is providing services to members of the military and their families.
  • Must meet strict medical and physical requirements, including immunizations required by the U.S. military.
  • May be required to wear military uniforms, and live and work in harsh and stressful environment in conflict areas.
  • Periodically accompanies the military on deployments.
