The internship supports the News and Media Unit at the United Nations Information Service in Vienna. The intern will assist with media monitoring, drafting content for social media and press releases, research, and supporting outreach events and high-level visits.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor German language Austrian media coverage for various Austrian national and UN topics.
  • Translate and summarize articles for a daily press review.
  • Follow press conferences by the Austrian Government and summarize key points.
  • Draft content for social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) including preparing visuals using CANVA.
  • Draft a wide range of media texts, including press releases and content for the Web in German and English.
  • Assist with research on specific topics.
  • Support the production of videos, photos and audio to promote specific UN topics and the work of the organization.
  • Assist in the preparation, implementation and follow-up of press briefings and outreach events as well as high-level visits and conferences.
  • Perform other tasks as necessary.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
  • Official written proof from the university supporting enrolment or completion must be attached to the application.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • A field of study closely related to the internship type is required.
  • Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable.
  • Experience with writing for social media platforms and creating visual content using CANVA is highly desirable.
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Fluency in oral and written German is required.
  • Knowledge of a UNIS client country language (Hungarian, Slovak, Slovene) is an additional asset.
