The Project Associate (WASH) will assist in the day-to-day implementation and monitoring of WASH activities, ensuring coordination with local government counterparts and partner organizations. The role involves administrative coordination, procurement support, reporting, and field activity monitoring in support of WASH projects.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities.
- Retrieve, compile, summarize, analyze, and present information/data on WASH needs.
- Act as focal point for administrative coordination of project implementation, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, process and follow-up on administrative actions, etc.
- Support in preparing procurement documents (requisitions, call for tenders, technical evaluations, etc).
- Draft status reports, identifying shortfalls in delivery, bring them to the attention of the supervisor and suggest remedial actions.
- Draft correspondence on project issues; prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentation and other forms of documentation.
- Respond to information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records; organize meetings, workshops and training sessions.
- Assist in monitoring field activities (cash for work, implementing partner, vendors) in accordance with Bill of Quantities, contracts and instructions from supervisors, keeping record and coordination with procurement team, and reporting when non-compliance.
- Follow up procurement processes in coordination with the procurement unit and payment to service providers, contractors and suppliers in coordination with the resource management unit.
- Participate in donor meetings, conferences and field visits; assist in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, United Nation agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors and other stakeholders relevant to the project.
- Provide guidance/training to new/junior staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- School diploma with five years of relevant experience; or, Bachelor's degree in water/Environment/Civil engineering/sciences or related fields from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant experience.
- Experience in monitoring and supervision of WASH projects, especially water supply systems.
- Experience preparing workplans/bills of quantities and estimating cost of WASH interventions.
- Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations.
- Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups.
- Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
- Knowledge of MS Office suite software (Word, Excel, Project, etc).
- Knowledgeable in Mozambican Water and Sanitation regulations and local/international water and sanitation standards.
- Desirable knowledge of GIS (ArcGIS or similar) and design software (AutoCAD or similar).
- Fluency in English & Portuguese is required (oral and written).
- Any local spoken language from southern Mozambique is an advantage.
