The consultant will provide operational support for the implementation of the Global Health for Peace Initiative (GHPI) in the WHO Regional Office for Africa (AFRO). The role involves supporting WHO Country Offices with project conceptualization, development, and implementation based on the health and peace approach, including technical support, capacity-building, advocacy, and fundraising efforts.
Responsibilities
- Prepare engagement/awareness-raising materials and meetings targeting WHO Country Office staff and relevant partners regarding the GHPI.
- Provide technical support to AFRO or mainly to WHO Country Offices in the design, implementation, and monitoring & evaluation of ‘Health and Peace’ programming as per need.
- Contribute to developing capacity-building materials and to organizing and delivering training targeting WHO staff or others, as appropriate.
- Support the global learning and research efforts on health and peace.
- Mainstream research findings into communication tools, presentations, briefing notes and any other advocacy document.
- Advocate for, and contribute to raising funds for the implementation of the GHPI at regional and country levels, including by contributing to proposal writing.
- Support the development of an operational framework for the implementation of the GHPI in AFRO.
Requirements
- First University degree in social or political science, diplomacy, international relations and/or development studies or related.
- At least 5 years’ experience relevant to the ‘health and peace’ approach, including peacebuilding, conflict analysis, conflict sensitive programming, Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus implementation, public health and/or humanitarian response in conflict settings.
- Experience in integrating peace outcomes and/or the ‘do no harm’ principle into the health sector and/or humanitarian response is desirable.
- Experience providing technical support to other technical teams (in-person or remotely) is desirable.
- Fundraising experience, including proposal development, is desirable.
- Experience working in conflict or post-conflict settings is desirable.
- Experience working with international organisations is desirable.
- Ability to summarize technical information in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong writing and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to work proactively and independently, multitask and produce results under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with political awareness, diplomacy, tact and courtesy.
- Expert knowledge of French.
- Intermediate knowledge of English.
