The Innovative Nuclear Technology Transport Safety Specialist is responsible for implementing activities related to the safe transport of radioactive material and advanced nuclear technologies. The role involves developing and reviewing international safety standards, advising Member States and international organizations, and managing complex technical assistance projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop, review and revise safety standards and technical documents on specific areas, ensuring they reflect international consensus and state-of-the-art knowledge and information and that they can serve as a basis for achieving a harmonized approach to the safe transport of radioactive material and of advanced nuclear technologies at the international level.
- Provide advice to Member States and other international organizations on the safe transport of radioactive material with the aim of achieving harmonized application of the international regulations for the safe transport of radioactive material.
- Strengthen appropriate forums in order to increase awareness in Member States and relevant international organizations of topical issues related to the safe transport of radioactive material.
- Plan, organize, and lead complex technical meetings in the area of Transport Safety.
Requirements
- Advanced university degree in nuclear science, nuclear technology or nuclear engineering or related discipline.
- A first level university degree in nuclear science, nuclear technology or nuclear engineering or related discipline plus two years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Minimum of seven years of experience in safety assessments (reviewing, analysing, or approving) related to either transporting radioactive material or for nuclear power plants.
- Demonstrable participation in the development and/or application of IAEA safety standards related to transport and nuclear installations.
- Ability to prepare technical documents of a high technical quality and accuracy.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with IAEA staff at all levels and with representatives of Member States.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
- Excellent oral and written command of English.
- Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
