The Protection Team Leader manages the protection team in the assigned area and provides technical support during project implementation. The role includes guiding strategy design, overseeing individual case management, community protection processes, protection monitoring, and ensuring quality and adherence to institutional guidelines, facilitating timely assistance and dignified conditions for affected populations.
Responsibilities
- Manage and provide technical support to project staff in the assigned area, ensuring close leadership and continuous accompaniment.
- Lead compliance with protection competency strategy, manuals and guidelines and implement protection project action plans including activities, budget and documentation.
- Monitor daily implementation of area activities ensuring achievement of objectives.
- Ensure project activities target most vulnerable participants, exploring and evaluating improved assistance methods.
- Promote and share ideas for improving technical assistance and program effectiveness.
- Prepare periodic progress reports and other documents required by coordination and management.
- Ensure capacity development of project staff and transfer of key skills including individual case management, community work and protection risk monitoring.
- Contribute to proper and consistent use of digitalized protection case systems respecting data protection and confidentiality principles.
- Act as liaison with local authorities and key actors, coordinating actions, promoting resource use and joint activity planning.
- Promote rights of displaced, migrant, refugee, confined and other violence-affected populations in line with NRC advocacy strategy.
- Ensure compliance with NRC policies, tools, manuals and guidelines throughout project phases.
- Support implementation of Safe and Inclusive Programming activities included in country office action plan relevant to unit/team.
- Attend relevant Safe and Inclusive Programming basic package training modules including mandatory modules on PSI basics, PEAAS, Safeguarding and Data Protection.
- Ensure proper implementation of protection activities in line with NRC global guidelines, protection and humanitarian principles.
- Promote NRC protection approach with key actors and coordination spaces at local level and identify coordination initiatives.
- Identify capacity strengthening needs of protection and other NRC competencies and coordinate training actions with Coordination.
- Coordinate and monitor team work plan ensuring correct execution and compliance of protection activities.
- Provide accompaniment and technical support to staff responsible for individual case management, community processes, protection monitoring and other activities according to NRC procedures, global guidelines and international standards including digital systems use.
- Conduct frequent field missions to provide technical support and ensure quality implementation in line with NRC Protection Policy, donor requirements and international standards.
- Support collection, consolidation and analysis of information for donor reports and programmatic products.
- Monitor implementation of logical framework of projects managed by Protection team in coordination with MEAL staff including indicator and target tracking.
- Support development and/or review of MEAL tools related to protection activities.
- Support and promote advocacy actions in the territory.
- Monitor budget and indicators managed by protection team and related reports.
- Strengthen and promote integrated work among NRC competencies (ICLA, Shelter&Wash, Education, Protection).
- Strengthen and accompany NRC partners in the territory and promote integrated work between NRC and partners.
- Perform other tasks assigned by direct supervisor aligned with job objectives.
Requirements
- University degree in Psychology, Social Work, Social Sciences or related fields.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience implementing protection projects in humanitarian contexts.
- Experience in leadership of protection projects.
- Experience working in field with vulnerable populations.
- Knowledge of national and international human rights and protection frameworks applicable to displaced, migrant, refugee, confined and other populations affected by violence.
- Solid knowledge of humanitarian principles and protection principles and their practical application in operational contexts.
- Knowledge and application of age, gender and diversity approach in protection activities.
- Skills in oral expression and report writing.
- Technical experience in at least one of the following areas: individual protection case management, community protection processes, and/or protection monitoring.
- Knowledge and use of qualitative and quantitative tools for collecting protection-relevant information, including data protection principles.
- Ability to support basic analysis of protection information for programmatic decision-making at field level.
- Proficient use of office tools (Word, Office 365, Excel, PowerPoint) for operational management and reporting.
- Organizational skills, confidential handling of information and proper filing of physical and digital documentation.
- Experience working in similar roles in humanitarian aid contexts.
- Experience in complex and volatile contexts.
- Desirable: Intermediate knowledge of English, written and spoken.
