The Communication and Advocacy Consultant will support the Tehran Convention Secretariat by updating and managing communication platforms, producing advocacy materials, and providing translation services between English and Russian. The consultant will work remotely and coordinate with UNEP Europe Office Communication focal point to ensure alignment with UNEP guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Update and relaunch the Tehran Convention website with modern layout and technical solutions.
  • Develop content for social media channels related to the 20th anniversary of the Tehran Convention.
  • Update information database and photo library.
  • Assist in promoting collaboration with Caspian stakeholders.
  • Produce advocacy and communication materials such as short movies, high quality images, and other printed and audio-visual products.
  • Support donor visibility efforts by contributing to communication and visibility products customized to various donor requirements.
  • Create and promote campaigns aimed at local, national and international media on Tehran Convention and achievements, especially for Caspian Sea Day celebrations.
  • Prepare various written outputs including draft background papers, analytical notes, and report sections.
  • Provide substantive support to regional meetings related to marine litter and other relevant topics under the Tehran Convention theme.
  • Prepare inputs in English and Russian languages on outreach materials for the Tehran Convention Secretariat.
  • Harmonize the Russian with the English language versions of the Tehran Convention website.

Requirements

  • Advanced University degree (master's or equivalent) in environmental law/policy/information science or related field of study is required.
  • A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
  • At least 2 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level in communication, media or other relevant fields is required.
  • Experience in managing and analysing content for social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram and YouTube), maintaining web content, running digital outreach campaigns, liaising with media, managing media contact lists, monitoring media coverage, and preparing press materials is desirable.
  • Experience in drafting and editing content, including creating engaging materials (briefs, infographics, videos, etc.) in both Russian and English, is desirable.
  • Experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, coordinating with different teams, and communicating complex or technical information to diverse audiences is desirable.
  • Experience working on communications and engagement with stakeholders in the Caspian Sea region and the Caspian littoral states is desirable.
  • Fluency in oral and written English and Russian is required.
