The Graphic Design Assistant supports the design and production of graphic materials for UN-sponsored activities, including conferences and campaigns. The role involves conceptualizing design proposals, producing infographics and data visualizations, coordinating project production, and assisting with data presentations and updating information materials.
Responsibilities
- Participates in initial meetings with clients to discuss potential design projects including content, communication objectives, media, design options, technical specifications, costs, and schedules.
- Independently undertakes design assignments for a variety of UN-sponsored activities such as major conferences, observances, events, and campaigns.
- Conceptualizes and develops design proposals for review by clients, including photographic, illustrative or abstract graphic solutions.
- Designs and produces infographics and data visualizations to communicate complex information clearly and engagingly.
- Prepares all approved designs in electronic format for final review and printing; reviews color and print proofs as required.
- Provides guidance and support throughout the project production process; coordinates and follows-up with clients and other relevant parties to ensure projects are on schedule.
- Assists with the collection and analysis of data and preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
- Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
- Performs other related work as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A diploma in graphic design or a related field from a recognized college is desirable.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in publications production, including desktop publishing, graphic design and layout, or related area is required.
- The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) years for candidates who possess a first level university degree or higher.
- Proficiency in professional graphic design and publishing software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud) is required.
- One year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
- English is required at UN Level II for reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
- French is desirable at UN Level I for reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
