The Innovation and Analytics Hub at OHCHR in Geneva offers internship opportunities in various workstreams including Strategic Coordination and Planning, Digital Transformation and AI, Data and Analytics, and Human Rights Risk Analysis and Early Warning. Interns will work as full members of the team, contributing to projects that advance human rights through innovation and analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the organization and facilitation of strategic planning meetings, outreach initiatives, and training workshops (Workstream 1).
  • Contribute to the creation of analytics products, slide decks and background papers (Workstream 1).
  • Assist in monitoring and analysis of strategic initiatives and their implementation (Workstream 1).
  • Support the organization-wide innovation Community of Practice, communications and campaign management (Workstream 1).
  • Support resource mobilization through donor research, contact management, and drafting meeting notes (Workstream 1).
  • Contribute to planning, design, and execution of digital transformation initiatives (Workstream 2).
  • Assist in development and deployment of data analytics tools and platforms (Workstream 2).
  • Support integration of emerging technologies into workflows and systems (Workstream 2).
  • Provide technical support and training on digital tools and platforms (Workstream 2).
  • Contribute to collection, compilation, and verification of data from field presences (Workstream 3).
  • Develop analytical products including dashboards, visualizations, and data-driven insights (Workstream 3).
  • Contribute to development and production of global human rights indicators including SDG indicators (Workstream 3).
  • Support dissemination of innovative tools and best practices to field presences (Workstream 3).
  • Provide support on information and data management to colleagues at headquarters and in the field (Workstream 3).
  • Contribute to monitoring, analysis, and reporting on emerging human rights risks and protracted crisis situations (Workstream 4).
  • Support preparation of specialized human rights reports and documentation including drafting background materials, daily updates, and enhanced monitoring inputs (Workstream 4).
  • Conduct daily media and open-source monitoring, identify potential human rights concerns, and coordinate internally (Workstream 4).
  • Support development of human rights risk assessments and early warning analysis (Workstream 4).

Requirements

  • Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (master's degree or equivalent, Ph.D. or post-graduate degree) or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Candidates should specify their period of availability and the workstream(s) of interest.
  • Workstream 1: Political Science, Communication, Business Management, Public Administration, or related fields.
  • Workstream 2: Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or related fields.
  • Workstream 3: Data Science, Statistics, Social Sciences, Economics, International Development, Geography, or related fields.
  • Workstream 4: International Relations, Law, Political Science, Social Sciences, or related fields.
  • Most interns have prior internships or a year or two of full-time work experience, though this is not formally required.
  • Workstream 1 skills: Strong organizational and coordination skills, analytical thinking, excellent written and verbal communication, experience with visual design, attention to detail.
  • Workstream 2 skills: Interest in emerging technologies, innovation, digital transformation; familiarity with digital tools; experience in data analysis.
  • Workstream 3 skills: Experience in data processing and analysis, familiarity with data management and visualization tools, experience in applying statistical or econometric methods.
  • Workstream 4 skills: Solid knowledge of human rights principles and international human rights mechanisms, excellent drafting skills, previous experience in human rights and proficiency in report-drafting based on diverse data sources.
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish) is desirable.
  • Interns are not financially remunerated and must cover costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may require appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
