The Junior Energy Analyst will support analysis and drafting on electricity markets, process data sets to identify trends, and monitor international developments in electricity market reform. The role involves collaboration within the IEA and preparation of materials for workshops and presentations to support the clean energy transition.

Responsibilities

  • Support analysis and drafting on topics related to electricity markets, either for publication or for briefing senior officials/management.
  • Process data sets for identifying trends and developments across international electricity markets.
  • Present data in figures that can be used to demonstrate key trends and insights across electricity markets.
  • Monitor and analyse international developments in electricity market reform.
  • Collaborate with other divisions within the IEA and external organisations to optimise the performance of EMS/ESM as well as other parts of the IEA.
  • Assist in the preparation of material needed to support broader IEA work, including supporting material for workshops, briefings, presentations, and related outputs.

Requirements

  • Achieved or close to achieving a university degree in a related field, such as economics, engineering, or policy.
  • Exposure to analysing electricity markets, preferably across more than one country.
  • Knowledge of electricity systems and the technical, economic, and regulatory factors that shape electricity system outcomes.
  • Knowledge of economic principles used in electricity market design, including an understanding of electricity market reform.
  • Ability to process large data sets, including data processing and analysis using Excel.
  • Additional benefit is for the candidate to be capable of using a programming language such as Python.
  • Ability to synthesise complex results and present them to a non-specialist audience.
  • A good level of oral and written communication skills and excellent drafting ability in English; working knowledge of other languages would be an advantage.
