This internship is located in the Technology Infrastructure Support Unit (TISU) of the Infrastructure and Operations Section within the Service for Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies at the UN Global Service Centre in Brindisi, Italy. The intern will support data centre operations and infrastructure monitoring for a six-month unpaid full-time internship.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with daily health checks of data centre core infrastructure systems (cooling, power autonomy, fire suppression).
- Supporting hardware lifecycle tasks, including inventory, racking/stacking, and cable management.
- Helping track environmental metrics, power utilization, and rack capacity.
- Supporting backup job checks and basic restore scenarios.
- Assisting with the design and implementation support of Radio Frequency access control systems.
- Logging and updating incidents/requests/changes in the applicable management and reporting tools.
- Assisting with any other tasks assigned by the designated official.
Requirements
- The basic education required is HS Diploma.
- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- The field of study must be closely related to the type of Internship you are applying for, such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Telecommunications.
- Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
- Applicants must be a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor's or equivalent), or enrolled in/completed a Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
- Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams.
- Exposure to Linux/Windows basics, networking, virtualization, monitoring systems, cabling or electrical systems is desirable.
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship.
- Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
- Knowledge of Italian is desirable.
