The Associate Information Management Officer-Data Analyst supports data analysis and information management to aid decision-making processes within UNOCHA's Regional Bureau for Africa. The role involves managing and analyzing data, developing databases, creating visualizations, and coordinating information management and knowledge sharing.

Responsibilities

  • Compile, clean and harmonize datasets from multiple sources to prepare for analysis.
  • Develop and implement databases and data collection systems, supporting analytical strategies to improve statistical efficiency and data quality.
  • Develop and maintain front-end and back-end of regional humanitarian databases hosted and developed by OCHA ROWCA.
  • Support the development and application of data standards, advising on their integration into local systems and processes.
  • Support data focal points in all data integration processes.
  • Serve as content editor and website manager for all platforms related to OCHA ROWCA.
  • Act as focal point for humanitarian financing and responsible for creating funding models for the regional and country offices.
  • Act as focal point for the Joint Intersectoral Analysis Framework (JIAF) to support country offices during surge missions within the HPC process.
  • Create infographics and visualization products for reports, briefs, advocacy materials and presentations, ensuring compliance with institutional visual identity guidelines.
  • Utilize new visualization technologies including interactive dashboards, geospatial tools and AI-integrated platforms to transform complex data into actionable operational information.
  • Analyze and evaluate location-specific datasets using appropriate statistical and geospatial techniques.
  • Produce geospatial outputs such as maps, online databases, dynamic web maps, geospatial data analyses and dashboards.
  • Develop and document methodologies, processes and QA/QC procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of geospatial data and cartographic products.
  • Provide information management support remotely and onsite to country and regional offices, especially during sudden or escalating emergencies.
  • Support the design and implementation of capacity building initiatives in information management, emerging technologies, data protection and data accountability, enhancing understanding of policies and guidelines.
  • Stay informed of current and emerging trends, technologies and best practices in information management to recommend organizational process improvements.
  • Participate in first responder mechanisms such as UNDAC to support development and smooth transition of information tools and services.
  • Perform other duties as required to ensure smooth functioning of the office and organization.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree with 2 years of experience OR Bachelor's Degree with 4 years of experience in fields such as computer science, data science, analytics, statistics, information management, public administration, management or related fields.
  • At least 2 years (with a Master) or 4 years (with a Bachelor's) of experience in applied analytics, business intelligence, statistics, project management, stakeholder management or related areas.
  • Experience using data to support decision-making, strategy development and implementation.
  • Experience with self-service analytics and data visualization tools such as MS Power BI, Qlik, Tableau or equivalents, or business intelligence tools like SAP Business Objects.
  • Experience managing version control tools such as Git is highly desirable.
  • Experience with databases or programming languages such as SQL, Python, R is desirable.
  • Recent experience working in information management in a regional office of a UN agency is an asset.
  • Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint are desirable.
  • Fluency in French, both oral and written, is required.
  • Knowledge of English is required.
