The Staff Assistant (Data Management) supports the J2 Intelligence Division at NISRF by managing geospatial information and data to enhance situational awareness and operational readiness. The role involves geospatial data acquisition, management, dissemination, and coordination across NATO networks and commands.

Responsibilities

  • Load and maintain the Geospatial Strategic Baseline of NATO to the AGS Core.
  • Acquire geospatial products and data from NCS and operational Commands.
  • Disseminate new geospatial information to SHAPE and other NCS Commands as directed by SHAPE.
  • Manage the flow of both hard and soft copy designated geospatial information to and from NISRF including deployed elements.
  • Maintain a soft copy Designated Geospatial Information store.
  • Manage and administrate static geospatial systems at the Main Operation Base (MOB).
  • Ensure and manage the provision of geospatial data and services to AGS Core systems.
  • Operate one CoreGIS Cartographic Workstation.
  • Act as a point of contact on geospatial data issues for the FAS administrators AGS Core network.
  • Lead on all aspects of archiving of supplemented geospatial information (data, product and metadata).
  • Liaise directly with all geospatial Data Managers in NCS on all aspects of geospatial data management and attend the NATO CoreGIS Data Manager Meeting.
  • Coordinate with NISRF Data Manager Branch to avoid duplication of efforts.
  • Manage the transfer of geospatial information between different NATO Networks (NU, NR, NS, AGS Core, etc.).
  • Manipulate geospatial data in appropriate formats to support AGS Core requirements and product generation.

Requirements

  • Profound post-related experience, including knowledge of and expertise in management of geospatial information, products and data.
  • Higher Secondary education and completed higher vocational training in geography, computer science or related discipline leading to a formal technical or professional certification with 3 years function related experience, or Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training in that discipline leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 5 years post related experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Geographic Information Systems, Databases and Spreadsheet.
  • Adequate knowledge of Automatic Data Processing (ADP) systems.
  • A good command of English both written and spoken.
  • Experience in the development and fielding of Geographic Information Systems (desirable).
  • Experience with GI maintenance, processing and dissemination (desirable).
  • Previous experience covering joint staff functions, preferably in a NATO/military environment (desirable).
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in geography, land surveying, civil engineering or related disciplines with 2 years professional experience (desirable).
  • NATO Geospatial Orientation Course, or equivalent (desirable).
