The Project Assistant will implement the REAP project activities in Dadaab camps, ensuring quality delivery of programmes and maintaining high professional standards. The role involves maintaining accurate project records, beneficiary lists, and timely submission of reports and transaction documents.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and implementation of project activities including purchase requisition, beneficiary selection and record keeping.
  • Support in monitoring and identification of beneficiaries in project implementation sites.
  • Ensure project activities are implemented according to approved work plans with involvement of partners and stakeholders.
  • Ensure efficient, effective and sustainable implementation of project activities.
  • Ensure effective implementation of school-based teacher training program.
  • Assist Project Coordinator in strengthening management of school committees and pupils through community mobilization and training improvements.
  • Ensure efficient distribution of textbooks and instructional materials to target schools.
  • Conduct regular data collection to track project performance and impact for donor reporting and recommend improvements.
  • Document and share good practices and lessons with MEAL and education teams for replication.
  • Travel to project sites for regular monitoring of project quality with team members.
  • Collate field monitoring data for Education Coordinator and MEAL Team reporting and monitoring.
  • Focus on project data collection with MEAL Team for program decision-making and impact capture.
  • Assist Education Coordinator in preparing periodic progress reports for internal and external use.
  • Coordinate with other departments to support field activities including logistics, procurement, security and administration.
  • Coordinate with other SCI programs/sectors to ensure integration and efficient project operation drawing from best practices.

Requirements

  • Minimum of Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in education, Education in Emergencies, experience in either CP or Education.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in education sector especially in refugee setting.
  • Knowledge of education in emergencies, education sector policy, child rights and protection issues.
  • Experiences of facilitating community-based training, capacity building school managements, and awareness campaigns.
  • Understanding of refugee work, non-formal education and context experience including local language.
  • Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • Positive attitude towards community work with emphasis on the ability to learn from communities and support participatory, innovative approaches to problem solving.
  • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathise with all children and their carers.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, Kiswahili and the local language in the camps and the host community.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions.
  • Commitment to Save the Children’s Child Protection Policy.
  • Previous experience in working in a consortium with INGOs delivering education and girl child education services (desirable).
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills (desirable).
  • High level of motivation and enthusiasm for education (desirable).
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills (desirable).
  • Understanding of the dynamics of the refugees is essential (desirable).
  • Experience of working with communities and other agencies that support education (desirable).
