The internship supports the Digital Technology Training Development project at the United Nations Global Service Centre in Valencia, focusing on AI-based tools for drone digital forensics and the development of a 3D-printed drone. The intern will assist in research, development, testing, documentation, and coordination activities related to drone forensics and AI innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Support research on current and emerging UAS (Unmanned Aircraft System) and counter-UAS technologies relevant to drone forensics and training applications, and present findings to the team.
  • Assist in the development, testing, and validation of AI-based tools (including offline AI solutions) for drone forensics use cases.
  • Evaluate the performance, accuracy, and limitations of existing AI models applied to drone data (e.g. imagery, video, telemetry).
  • Assist in the design, assembly, and iterative development of a 3D-printed drone platform.
  • Participate in testing and documentation of drone systems, components, and forensic workflows.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, test reports, and datasets to ensure project integrity and traceability.
  • Report progress, findings, and challenges during regular technical and project meetings.
  • Assist with coordination and technical updates during engagements with relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Perform any other duties as required in support of TDU technology development and innovation activities.

Requirements

  • The basic education required is HS Diploma.
  • Applicants must meet one of the following: a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent); c) The field of study must be closely related to the internship’s technical scope, such as Computer Forensics, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, or other relevant Forensics or ICT disciplines.
  • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
  • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.
  • Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, or similar.
  • Knowledge of Open-Source AI-based tools that can be hosted locally is desirable.
  • Knowledge of AI-based drone forensics tools is desirable.
  • Ability to draft professional emails to clients is desirable.
  • Ability to organize and conduct professional meetings with clients is desirable.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is desirable.
  • Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
